Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the Cathexis mobile application ("the App").

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Cathexis, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

Cathexis is a body awareness and self-observation application that provides:

• 35 therapeutic programs for specific concerns (anxiety, grief, trauma, chronic pain, postpartum, recovery, and more)
• 4 starter programs and 25 single-day Life Event modules
• 149 guided somatic interventions (breathing, grounding, movement techniques)
• The Circle practice — a structured 10-step daily practice
• Prediction tracking — comparing expected vs. actual experience
• LINK pattern detection — AI-assisted pattern recognition across check-ins
• Journal and reflection features
• Progress tracking on original concerns
• Therapist report export (PDF)
• Educational content about neuroscience and embodied practices

The techniques in this app are drawn from published neuroscience research (including predictive processing theory, constructed emotion research, affective neuroscience, and neuropsychoanalysis) and established clinical practices, but using an app is not the same as working with a licensed professional. Always consult with a qualified healthcare provider for mental health concerns.

3. No Medical Claims

Cathexis does not:

• Diagnose any physical or mental health condition
• Provide medical advice or treatment recommendations
• Claim to cure, treat, or prevent any condition
• Make claims about specific outcomes or results

Pattern detection (LINK) and insights are observational, not diagnostic. The app surfaces patterns — you decide what they mean. Individual responses to any technique vary significantly.

4. Subscription & Payments

Free Trial

Cathexis offers a 7-day free trial. You will not be charged during the trial period. You may cancel at any time before the trial ends to avoid being charged.

Subscription

• Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
• Subscription automatically renews unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period
• You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID Account Settings

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policy. We do not process refunds directly.

5. User Responsibilities

By using Cathexis, you agree to:

• Use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes only
• Not redistribute, modify, or reverse-engineer the App
• Not use the App in any way that could harm yourself or others
• Seek professional help if you are experiencing severe mental health symptoms
• Use the App within its intended scope as a self-observation tool

6. Safety Plan Feature

Cathexis includes a Safety Plan feature for personal use. This feature:

• Is a tool to help you organize your own safety strategies
• Is NOT monitored by any crisis service or professional
• Does NOT alert emergency services or contacts automatically
• Should be used in conjunction with professional care if you are at risk

7. Motion & Activity Data

If you grant permission, Cathexis may access motion and activity data to provide smart notifications. This data is:

• Processed entirely on your device
• Never transmitted to any server
• Used only to provide contextually relevant reminders

You can disable this feature at any time in Settings.

8. LINK Pattern Detection

The LINK feature uses on-device pattern recognition to identify correlations in your check-in data. Important limitations:

• LINK surfaces observations, not diagnoses
• Pattern detection identifies correlations, not causation
• LINK does not use artificial intelligence or machine learning
• You are responsible for interpreting what patterns mean for your life
• LINK data is processed locally and never leaves your device

9. Intellectual Property

All content in Cathexis, including but not limited to text, graphics, images, audio, and the overall design, is the property of Cathexis and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You may not:

• Copy or reproduce App content for distribution
• Use App content for commercial purposes
• Claim ownership of any App content

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

Cathexis is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

• Implied warranties of merchantability
• Fitness for a particular purpose
• Non-infringement

We do not warrant that:

• The App will meet your specific requirements
• The App will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free
• Results from using the App will be accurate or reliable

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cathexis and its creators shall not be liable for any:

• Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
• Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
• Personal injury or emotional distress
• Any damages arising from your use or inability to use the App

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, or otherwise) and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Cathexis, its creators, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the App
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any rights of another person or entity

13. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of significant changes through the App or by other means. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

14. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, without notice, for conduct that we believe:

• Violates these Terms
• Is harmful to other users or the App
• Is illegal or violates any applicable law

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Cathexis regarding the use of the App.

By using Cathexis, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this information, and you agree to use the app within its intended scope as a self-observation and awareness tool.
